The scuff plate on your Kirby G5 protects the front edge of the nozzle from scratches and impacts as you vacuum around furniture legs and baseboards. Once it wears through, the nozzle housing takes the abuse directly and can crack. Replacing the scuff plate is cheap insurance against expensive nozzle damage. Part #111297.
